Front Desk: Private Pool Rooms in Phnom Penh for About $100
Nate and I went to Cambodia and Laos not long ago and loved everything about that trip. While it’s expensive to get there from the U.S. (we used miles), the accommodations and food were often affordable and really fantastic.
One particular favorite was The Pavilion Hotel. Located in Phnom Penh, it was the first stop on our long trip and felt like a serious oasis in the middle of a bustling city. The restaurant and common area are situated around a big swimming pool, which was so pretty during breakfast and for evening cocktails. There’s a small spa, and a nicely curated shop selling local goods.
The best part are the guest rooms. We opted for the Private Pool Room that had a breezy canopy bed (what is it about that gauzy stuff that makes you feel like you’re on a beach vacation?), air-conditioning, and en suite bath. The large outdoor space had a sitting area + a very good-sized private pool (pictured above). If there weren’t so much to do in the city, we could have stayed put here the entire three days. This room rate averages 130 USD per night (we payed $110 in the super hot season) and includes breakfast; doubles without a pool start at about $80.
