A Fun Thing: Lucky Palace Chinese

A Fun Thing: Lucky Palace Chinese

Here’s the thing:  Lucky Palace is not much to look at from the outside. In fact, it’s tucked inside a shabby no-tell motel, but is perhaps the very reason to visit Bossier City, Louisiana. You’ll find it off the run-down lobby that was once a coffee shop. Today, it’s been transformed into a Chinese restaurant owned by Kuan Lim. And it’s some of the best Chinese food I’ve ever had—with an even better wine list.

Lim was on his was to Texas for a restaurant investment when he stopped into Bossier City to play a round of blackjack; the city is more well-known for casinos than fine cuisine. He never left and open this place in 1997.

Lucky Palace is beloved by locals and a destination for those who care about food—and also wine. Lim taught himself to taste old- and new-world wine and even went to the James Beard Foundation to see how chefs pair it with food—earning nods and awards himself.

If you’re ever passing though Shreveport-Bossier City, this place is a true hidden gem with incredible food and wine. And if you have too much of the latter, the seedy hotel rents rooms by the hour.
